MENDED HEARTS

Today at my job I hosted a booth at health expo next to me were a very nice group of volunteers for a national organization called MeadedHearts.

If you or someone you know is a heart patient who would like to visit with one of our accredited visitors online, by telephone or in your community, e-mail us now or call 1-888-HEART99 (1-888-432-7899).
About Mended Hearts

Mended Hearts has been offering the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers for 60 years. Recognized for its role in facilitating a positive patient-care experience, Mended Hearts partners with 460 hospitals and rehabilitation clinics and offers services to heart patients through visiting programs, support group meetings and educational forums. Our mission is to “inspire hope in heart disease patients and their families.”

Because Mended Hearts is made up of the very kinds of people it serves—heart patients, their families, and others impacted by heart disease, its members draw on personal experience as they help others. Mended Hearts support groups help people understand that there can be a rich, rewarding life after heart disease. Members listen, share their experiences, learn from healthcare professionals and volunteer to talk to other heart patients about what they may face including lifestyle changes, depression, recovery, and treatment. Annually, Mended Hearts volunteers make visits to patients, family members and caregivers in hospitals, online and by phone.

Mended Hearts hosts an annual convention to train volunteers and provide networking opportunities. The national office also publishes a quarterly magazine, Heartbeat, to communicate valuable information, chapter news and inspirational stories.

Mended Little Hearts provides hope and support to children, families and caregivers impacted by congenital heart defects in order to extend and improve quality of life.

PCNA is the leading nursing organization dedicated to preventing cardiovascular disease through assessing risk, facilitating lifestyle changes and guiding individuals to achieve treatment goals. Mended Hearts and PCNA have worked closely together for six years, and PCNA has had speakers at our six most recent national conventions.

The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, or SCAI, is the primary professional association for invasive and interventional cardiologists – physicians who diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease, as well as congenital and structural heart conditions, through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting. The partnership with SCAI represents Mended Hearts’ first formal relationship with an organization of cardiovascular professionals. It was finalized in 2010 when we put our first cath patient outreach program together, and it has proven to be a great model for Mended Hearts. From SCAI’s perspective, Dr. Jeff Marshall: “It’s a match made in heaven.” The number of angioplasties continues to increase, and more invasive means of revascularization, like by bypass surgery, are not increasing. Mended Hearts is proud to partner with Lilly/Daiichi-Sankyo in providing Healthy Hearts in Harmony as part of its participation in Hearts in Harmony. This is a comprehensive public education campaign to help patients and their loved ones deal with both the physical and emotional effects of resuming a healthy life after a heart event. Mended Hearts is proud to be a network member of the Time to Talk Cardio program. Heart patients, their families and caregivers can find a vast array of resources at this site to improve the dialogue between patients and health care professionals.

The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Coalition is an ad hoc coalition of more than 40 nonprofit organizations with a common interest in preventing death and disability from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Mended Hearts, Inc. is a proud Steering Committee member of the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Coalition.
