STAIRS

This weekend we went to Savannah GA. It's a beautiful old city. I the last time we went to the river front I hadn't lost my sight. It was the summer of 2001. It must have been funny seeing me "walk down" the stairs to the river front. I had to hold on to the handrail with both hands ,stand sideways, and step one foot and a time. It was about a fifty-foot ladder shaped stairs. The streets are brick and stone. In some areas the spots around the stone was warn away and the stone stuck out. I felt like I was hiking. On the way up we took a different route. I always say going down is harder but I'm glad we skipped the stairs. I got my exercise in Savannah.

KINDLE FONT SIZE

We drove last week to the mid-west to visit family. Four days with almost ten hours a day in the car. How did I pass the time. Well most long trips I take boxes of beads with my beading tools and make jewelry for most of the trip. Instead I just took my Galaxy Note 3 and my iPad 3. With my son and husband listened to Sports talk radio almost the entire trip which sounded like the same conversation over and over, I read books on my with iPad Kindle app. I can make the font large enough for me to read comfortably. last month I went to my eye doctor saying I noticed I couldn't see small as well as I have. He laughed and said "you're getting to that age". Thanks a lot Dr. Dhaliwal.

FLYING AGAIN

Over the past four years I have traveled by plane more than I have in the first 46 years of my life. My most common destination in Memphis, Tennessee to visit family in Oxford, Mississippi. I have flown so much in the past few years I recognize the staff and they recognize me. It has been such an easy adjustment flying alone even thou I have vision problems. The first time I was ever on a plane was in 1972 when my parents took me to Johns' Hopkins in Baltimoe, Maryland for cataract surgery. My sister was able to go with us and I really appreciate it since she cut her college classes to be with me. My family has always be there for me when I had anything major like eye surgery.

VACATION ADVETURES

Our family traveled to Kanasas for July 4th. On the way home my sons wanted to stop at Antique Archeology in Nashville.  We are all fans of the show American Pickers on the History Channel. One episode was even filmed in my hometown of Greenville, Mississippi. I knew the homeowner they visited. He was an architect who my father dealt with when my family owned Greenville Lumber Company and Greenville Commercial Builder.  We parked the car and saw I long line to enter the building. It's located in a cool old brick building. After we entered my eyes had to adjust the lighting. It was very dark inside. It consist of items from the show, Mike's personal collection, and souviner merchandise. It is a true man cave. I worked my way around the store looking at all the cool items. First the right wall, next the back wall and next the left wall, as I finished looking a everything on the left wall I turned around and realized I was behind the sales counter. Oops! No one saw me but I was truely embarassed. This is a lesson in being aware of you surrounding. The boys, 50, 22 and 17, enjoyed experience. My son's girlfriend and I did too.

WHERE IS MY........

Most days before I leave the house I'm frantically looking for my glasses, purse or other items. Usually my husband finds them. I can't see with my glasses and I really can't see without them. Sometimes I look in the same spot several times for an item. It maybe "right under my nose" and I know even see it. This happened today. For the past two weeks I have been looking for my hair conditioner I use for humid weather. I took it on my last trip to my parents so I knew it was in the house somewhere. I have two clear travel bags my sister gave me several years ago that I love. They are clear so I can find items easily. I looked in both bags about four times over the past two weeks. Today I took everything out of both bags and there it was. I was happy and frustrated at the same time. I guess the lesson here is to put things in the same spot so they are easy to find and unload your bags the day you come home from a trip.

WE ARE OFF TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES

Today my son will take me to the DVMV to get a replacement ID card and Handicapped car tag. I lost both while traveling on two different trips.

LOST AND FOUND

I flew home yesterday and everything was fine until I was home and realized I couldn't find my ID card from the DMV. I have been on the phone all morning with the airlines. I lost my handicap tag this summer when I was at my parents. I guess I'll be spending a day at the DMV.

FLYING SOLO AGAIN

I'm packed to fly to Memphis tomorrow. I had everything pack and zipped my duffel bag and saw a 4 inch tear along the top of the flap. This was my son's duffel from our Italy trip. Oh well I can be used for car trips now. I repacked my things into a large suitcase. This will be my first solo trip with my new cane. I was cane trained about three months ago. When I fly I have to change planes and the airline is very helpful getting me to my next flight. For the pass four years I've flown about twice a year by myself. The first time I flew the attendant driving the cart asked if I could walk so she dropped my off and the entrance to the terminal. I had to find my gate by asking for help. The next time I made sure they took me to the right place. On a flight a few years ago our plane landed at a different gate and I told the attendant I was in a hurry to catch  my flight. I was told to wait a minute then I heard a speaker call out my flight. Thank God it was across the hallway. Most of the time I have to go to a different section. Since I can't drive this is the best way I can see family since we live about ten hours away.
