WATCHING TV

I know this may sound strange at first but right away I learned that I couldn't see the TV. I use binoculars to watch TV unless I'm standing right in front of it. The best pair I have found after buying about 6 pairs are Bushnell 8x21. They cost about $20. These have held up better than the other. The lens are clearer. I use the right side and hold them with my left hand to see out of the left eye. The right lens has the focus to make objects larger. For sports I have the same brand with were $50 but worth it because I bought several other pairs that didn't last long.

Font Size And 411 calls

Font size is a big deal to people with low vision. While looking at low vision sites I noticed the print is so small. Who do they think is reading it? I like to send emails in 18 or larger font. I also put the text in bold letters. Because I'm low vision I receive directory assistance FREE. I only get local numbers free. The print in the phone book is too small. All you need to do is call your local provider and ask them to mail you the form. The form is in large print by the way. It has to be renewed every two years.

My Computer

This is how I survived 2001. I just moved to a new town. Lost my sight and couldn't drive. I started to email and call family and friends. I made my font larger , bought a 19" monitor , and put large print sticker on my keyboard. I will post the items I have later.

BOOKS ON TAPE

The service I learned to use first was books on tape for the blind. Call your state library and ask for a form. Have your eye doctor sign the form. My doctor was happy to do this. Our state library books on tape employees are so helpful. This is a FREE service. At first I got Reader's Digest Large print at no cost. Now I listen to it on tape. Guidepost also comes in large print. Someone gave it to me over 10 years ago. I still buy it. I listen to something every night while I put in my eye drops which takes about 15 minutes

Welcome

Welcome,

I wanted to set up a blog to help others with low vision. This is for anyone who may have poor vision. I lost sight in my right eye in 2001. I can see some (20/150 ) with the left eye. I will list the things I have found over the past years that have greatly help me. If you have any questions please ask. If I only help one person it's worth setting up this blog.

Thank you,
Frances
